Writing Background

Becoming a writer has been like a dream come true for me. I wrote my first book, the self help Guide to Antenatal & Postnatal Depression (Vermilion) when I was a brand new mum, nervous and unsure and recovering from antenatal depression myself. Holding the first copy of that book is a moment I will never forget. Having dropped out of University to go and work in a series of unfulfilling and meaningless jobs I finally felt as if I had achieved something work wise. This feeling was really compounded when I burnt the midnight oil for the following year, working on my first novel and was rewarded with a two book deal from Hodder & Stoughton. Dreams really could come true after all! My new book, 'Finding the Plot' will be my fifth book and fourth novel, but it will be the first book I publish myself. That nervous new mum really has come a long way! Looking back I can see that although my novels are all very different they all share a common theme; that of people overcoming their fears to live in a way that is true to themselves. Hmm, a definite case of art imitating life methinks. My greatest hope is that people will be inspired as well as entertained by my books. And I hope, that through the workshops and talks I give I can encourage other people to achieve their own dreams.
