Here at Pickle Towers, we believe that everybody should have the letters "SAC" ("Safe Around Children") tattooed on their foreheads.

Then, whenever we uncover a potential predator, we can just brand the letter "N" in front of it.

It'd save an offal lotta time, though, wouldn't it?

Seriously though; it does strike me as another societal over-reaction, a knee-jerk "they should do something about it" - one Soham, and everybody has to be vetted. It won't achieve anything positive - predators are not going to say "Damn, can't be a (Cub Master/swimming coach/school caretaker), I'll give up the whole idea", they'll just find another way. Meanwhile people who would genuinely like to help/coach/offer activity support to kids are going to just walk away leaving the kids... you got it, hanging around on street corners and easy targets for the predators.

Sometimes you just can't win.

I see what you're saying - I just think it's a shame that the kids are going to suffer because of it...

Yes, on the face of it looks as if these authors are being really rather over sensitive, however, this does not detract from the fact that as you delve deeper into these new changes it becomes more obvious how ill thought out and ill conceived these new Vetting and Barring Scheme is.
And already we see the Government backtracking as fast as it’s little legs will let it, as it becomes more apparent how unworkable this Scheme is http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/09/15/isa_checks_reviewed/
