Yes, all writers are millionaires! I’ve got a short story coming out in an anthology. I was not paid for my work but, in order for the contract to be legit, each writer was sent a small payment. Imagine my delight when I opened the envelope to discover a compliment slip with a pound coin selotaped to it! I think you can still get a Mars Bar for under a pound, can’t you?

This is the reason i am never going to give up my day job. Unless of course the
economy becomes so bad that £3.49 is actually considered a lot.

£3.48 + 72p = £4.20 That’s not much help is it? If I was you, I think I’d blow it all on a bag of chips or something equally enjoyable.

But don’t forget, there must be thousands of people who’d love to receive royalty cheques. Maybe you should enjoy the nature of your success and ignore the amount. Who cares about money when you’re a successful author? (Don’t answer!)

I’ve had similar questions from adults – “Are you going to retire from teaching?” – No, I’m not quite ready to give up the day job. I prefer my house to the street, thank you. And it may sound greedy, but I do like to have food to eat.
